Is 14,000 ppd low for a 3.8 core i7? Followed instructions to a T, monitoring with HFM.NET
Damn, that's a lot of ppd! I feel like my wee little dual core i5 on my lappy isn't even worth it, pulling in about 400ppd.

It should be more than 400ppd. I ran a unit throught a Dell with a i5-520M the other day and the ppd was around 3400.
Please post your own thread in the forum so as not to clutter up this guide thread too much and we will get you fixed up. I took a look at your stats on EOC and something is definitely wrong. Make sure you didn't forget the -smp flag on the shortcut otherwise you will not get any SMP work.Ok, not getting points with smp app. Is this a common problem? Same user name, team 33, etc.
No, that was a requirement of MPICH system which is no longer used with the new 6.30 Beta client.I may have missed it, but is it still necessary to have a password on Windows to use this?
Have you successfully completed and uploaded any units yet?Ok, not getting points with smp app. Is this a common problem? Same user name, team 33, etc.
According to his EOC stats, it doesn't look like he is getting SMP work.. he is likely missing the -smp flag as I suggested earlier.Have you successfully completed and uploaded any units yet?
Did you follow the guide exactly? Remove the client completely and set it up again according to the guide. If you still have issues, post your log file and I'll see if I can help.I have been running -smp for about a week now and have seen little to no PPD on stats. However I installed HFM.NET and it shows I am running around 1400PPD. I have also noticed that it shows running no frame times. Any suggestions on what the issue may be?
Delete queue.dat and restart the client.Trying to run SMP again by having the machine on 24/7. However it's starting to work on an old WU that will timeout again for sure. How do I force the SMP client to start a new WU?

It seems strange that Stanford would make your 'proove' yourself with 10 WU before you get into their cool bonus points club. I'm actually liking going only with my SMP and dropping my 4870 GPU client. Once i start collecting bonus points it will be more productive and i can easily run SMP while running PC games without much problem whereas I had to disable the GPU client as it didn't seem to set the GPU cores as low priority. Finally hooked up FHM and with both the SMP and GPU running 24/7 I wouldn't have finished my SMP before the deadline.

Folding@Home Client Shutdown.
Maybe your firewall is blocking it from sending its work? Try adding an exception to it.
That's what I thought at first, so I turned off the Windows firewall completely.
Do routers have built in firewalls too?
Some do.
I put the router in "DMZ" mode for this computer, and the folding client still gets stuck at "attempting."
There is also a firewall, but I don't know if that's separate from DMZ mode (DI-624 router).
What IP range should I add for the firewall?
The "attempting to send results" message is what the client displays while it is uploading a unit to the results servers. Project 6040 is a large (for standard SMP) work unit. It will take a while to upload its results, especially if you have a connection with lower upload bandwidth. Open the client and leave it, and hopefully the unit will be sent. If after a few hours it hasn't sent the unit then you have a problem, but 20 minutes or so isn't enough time to judge whether there is a problem or whether the client is simply still in the process of sending its results.
Thanks for the tip!
Do you have an upper bound (for the longest it's ever taken you to send a large WU)?
The connection is cable (10 Mbps down/512kbps up).
Either something is set up incorrectly, you have something consuming CPU power, or you paused folding for too long and will not make the bonus deadline for the unit you're currently working on.Using HFM.net on both my laptop and desktop it's telling me my weak little i3 330M at 2.1Ghz with 2 cores and 4 threads is pushing 1800 PPD on the SMP client while the Q6600 4 cores 4 threads at 3.4Ghz is only pulling in 1525PPD on the SMP client. What is going on?
No.Edit: Is it still a good idea to run 2 SMP clients on 4 cores/4 threads?
I don't really pay attention to how long it takes, honestly.
For the 10 SMP WU's you need to complete to earn the bonus, is that 10 counted from your username, that specific client, or the passcode you are using with the client? I have two computers running SMP but am not sure if that's going to get me my bonus points any sooner.
Same user name and same passkey. The passkey is valid for your user name no matter what computer or client you're using it on, and it is also valid for any team. For the 10 SMP WU's you need to complete to earn the bonus, is that 10 counted from your username, that specific client, or the passcode you are using with the client? Memory Bandwidth the Q6600 is running slower DDR2 memory and the i3 is faster DDR3.Using HFM.net on both my laptop and desktop it's telling me my weak little i3 330M at 2.1Ghz with 2 cores and 4 threads is pushing 1800 PPD on the SMP client while the Q6600 4 cores 4 threads at 3.4Ghz is only pulling in 1525PPD on the SMP client. You'll never be able to run it on a Quad. bigadv requires a CPU with 8 or more threads.Anyone know the minimum hardware specs for -bigadv flag to be effective in getting bonuses?
(want to run it on my 6600 box but do not know if it will work)
