I have a generic PQI F1 40x 256mb compact flash card that I got off ebay. I used it for my graduation pictures and when I got home I couldn't read from the card. I tried it in my camera again and it wouldn't read either. I tried some freeware recovery software but that didn't work. It recoverd like 1/2 of a picture. I then took it to my local camera store and they said they would try. Still no luck. Does anyone know of anyplaces that do good data recovery for a resonable price? Locally or online is fine. I'm willing to pay up to $100 for about 20 pics on there.

wow sorry to here that

unlike a HDD where a lab would bust open the case and directly read the magentic bits, by passing any bad circuit board or mechanical failure, flash technology is much different
and there really isnt anyway to "directly" read the information
as that is what your computer already does
How Flash Memory Works

Ive seen services like
http://www.flashmedia911.com/
that claim to be able to recover data, they might have a highly sensitive reader and software to "rebuild" the electron states depending on the residual strength (sort of like forensic examination of overwritten data on a HDD where they compare the magnetic strength of the bits and can extrapoloate the last several states)

Flash Memory doesnt last forever, Id avoid buying any used in future (did you test it before using it?)

in addition not all memory is the same

Im relocating this thread to the Photography Digi & Film Forum, for more advice

Good Luck ;)
